Banff National Park - Day 4 - Lake Louise and the Kicking Horse River

Today we woke up and walked across the street to rent mountain bikes.

We rode on the Bow River Loop in Lake Louise. Part of the trail was closed because a pair of grizzlies have been hanging out in the area.

The trail was beautiful but bumpy. The girls and I had had enough after finishing the trail so we returned the bikes and went out for lunch.

In the afternoon we traveled west to the Kicking Horse River in British Columbia. We took a 3-hour rafting trip through class 2-4+ rapids. The rafting company, Wild Water Adventures, did a great job getting us the gear we needed to stay safe and warm. Wetsuits, fleece jackets, rain gear, gloves and helmets. When we were in the rapids we were glad we had all these things. The water was 42 degrees! Amanda was brave enough to jump in the water during one of the calm sections. Sorry we didn't have a camera on the trip. I'm sure it would be in the river now if we had brought it. You can see pictures of the trip we took (Whitewater Exciter) if you go to www.wildwater.com. This picture gives you an idea of our experience.

We drove back to our hotel and saw yet another black bear. Unfortunately there were signs on the highway that told us not to stop for bears, so we continued on.

Tomorrow morning we'll say goodbye to Banff National Park and Lake Louise as we head south to Waterton Lakes National Park.
