Glacier National Park - Day 1

Today we drove south, crossed the border, and entered Glacier National Park.

We drove up to Logan Pass on the Going to the Sun Road. The road just opened last week when they finally cleared all the snow off the road.

We hiked up the snow-covered  Hidden Lake trail behind the visitors' center.

I stopped about halfway up and started heading down while Vince, Kasey, and Amanda continued up to the lake overlook where they saw mountain goats.

Vince had stopped to get a photo of a goat and kid. He got a few photos and then the goat started walking towards him. He decided to leave them alone and head to the beaver pond. As he was taking pictures the goats appeared right next to him. He bolted through the brush to keep his distance from the goats and ended up scratching up his arm and leg. Injured and afraid the goat would charge him, the goat surprised him by coming up to him and licking the camera strap around his neck!

Meanwhile I was down at the base when half a dozen big horn sheep come running down a snow covered hill.

We left Logan Pass and continued driving west on the Going to the Sun Road. Beautiful views everywhere we looked.

We stopped at Avalanche Creek and hiked  2 miles to Avalanche Lake. It was a very nice hike to finish up our day.
